We’d like to explain how our practice works.

We design in the necessary time for your appointment to understand your health issues deeply and to address root causes.  By combining the best of modern medicine with functional and complementary approaches, we are optimistic that we can be helpful to you.  Our practice is not designed to offer primary or urgent care but rather to provide scheduled consultations.  If you do not have a primary care provider and/or need an option for urgent care, Union’s Convenient Care Clinic, AmbuCare, and other urgent care centers are in network for most insurances.

Our practice is out of network for insurance plans.  This means that payment in full is expected at the time of service.  Practicing as an out of network provider allows us to spend the extra time necessary to provide the care you need and deserve.  Insurance reimbursement covers the costs for 10-15 minute office visits.

We will gladly file insurance, and any reimbursement will come directly to you from your insurance company. Your insurance plan may require prior authorization for some services and may not provide coverage for services such as acupuncture.  Lab work and x-ray studies are usually covered at your normal rate as long as they are performed by in-network providers.  We will assist as best we can, but the responsibility remains with you to know the details of your plan.

We are ordering/referring providers for Medicare.  Medicare will not reimburse for your visits with us, but will cover labs, diagnostic studies and referrals to participating providers.  We do not bill Medicaid insurance plans which require us to accept fees that do not allow the length of visits we feel necessary.

Comprehensive initial visit charges with Dr Stienstra or Becca Barger, NP-C:

1.5 hours~$482;

2 hours-~$589;

Follow-up visits are

30 minutes ~$140

45 minutes at ~$210

60 minutes at $281.

Visit Charges with Chloee Hurst, RDN:

30 minutes at $65 or 60 minutes at $ 100

If insurance filing isn’t needed, the fees are discounted by 8% (our cost to the billing company).  There is a surcharge of 3% for use of credit cards, 2% for debit cards (our costs), so you will benefit if you pay with check or cash.

Because we set aside long periods of times for appointments, we ask for a deposit on new patient appointments of $50.  A missed follow up appointment or one cancelled less than four business hours from the appointment time will generate a charge of $40.

FAQs

Do you accept insurance?

We are out of network providers which means we have the freedom to spend the time you need during visits. Payment is expected at the time of service. If you wish to have your visits submitted to insurance, we have a billing company or you can submit the charges yourself. If you don’t use our billing company, we’ll discount your visit by 8% which is our cost.

Check to see if your insurance offers out of network coverage. Often this is available only with a high deductible. We do not bill Medicaid or Medicare insurance. We are billing/ordering providers with Medicare so labs and imaging we order are covered if performed by in network providers.

You can use FSA and HSA funds for our services.

Do you have memberships?

We offer an a-la-carte service model where you can pay as you go, or a VIP membership option. VIP membership includes a large lab panel annually, coverage for our accessible communication support between office visits, a free visit with our nutritionist, and $100 per year toward classes at the nonprofit Maple Center for Integrative Health

What if I don’t have a primary care provider?

We strongly encourage you to have a primary care provider in addition to the consulting care we provide. We don’t provide urgent care, and for an optimal medical team, we recommend that you have an ongoing relationship with a broad based primary care provider for both preventive and sick care.
